We have a special collection which circulates copy 2 while copy 1 is
"library use only". So we are glad we still use copy numbers.

We still use them and I am very glad that we do. I was working on a

project late last week that would have been much more difficult had I

not been able to use the copy field as part of my search strategy.

At Carleton College, we have "always" used copy numbers. We know that

some

libraries have stopped using copy numbers -- feeling that barcode

numbers

are sufficient to distinguish among different physical copies and that

copy

numbers are thus redundant.

We would like to hear from libraries that have stopped using copy

numbers.

1. Are you glad you stopped using copy numbers? What were the primary

benefits?

2. Have you experienced any drawbacks to not using copy numbers?

3. What advice would you give libraries regarding the use of copy

numbers

(or not)?

Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.
