Access Services Librarian
Curtin Memorial Library, Mount Saint Mary College
Description
Mount Saint Mary College invites applications for the position of Access
Services Librarian. The successful candidate will provide leadership,
organization, and management of circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan and
stack maintenance at the Curtin Memorial Library. Reporting to the Director
of Library, this position is full time, 12 months a year, with benefits.
Located in Newburgh, New York, overlooking the Hudson River and only an hour
north of New York City, Mount Saint Mary College is an independent,
co-educational institution of higher education with more than 2,500
students. With two libraries, Curtin Memorial Library and Curriculum
Library, to support the teaching, learning and researching environment,
coupled with a student-faculty ratio of 17 to 1, the atmosphere at MSMC is
close and personal.
Responsibilities
Coordinates the activities of circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan and
stack maintenance. Promotes quality services as well as planning,
developing, interpreting and implementing policies and procedures, including
copyright issues. Schedules, supervises, trains and evaluates support staff
members and a team of student assistants. Is responsible for facilities
management, including building security and making recommendations on space
utilization. Collects and analyzes a variety of statistical reports
including usage, missing items, and others as required. Participates in
reference, instruction and collection development activities. Handles
initial troubleshooting of the library's public equipment and reports
failures to the Systems Librarian. Fills in at the circulation desk when
necessary. Serves on library and campus committees. Performs other related
duties as assigned by the Director of Library. Some evening and weekend
work may be required.
Qualifications
ALA-accredited MLS degree and at least two years of supervisory experience
in some aspect of library access services. Demonstrated
management/supervisory skills: effective organizational, oral, written and
interpersonal communication; analytical and problem solving; ability to
multitask and balance priorities. Information technology skills and
experience appropriate for the position including strong knowledge of
emerging technologies in access services. Commitment to enhance services
through teamwork and collaboration. Experience with OCLC Resource Sharing,
Ariel, ILLIAD. Knowledge of the Copyright Law. Strong customer service
philosophy.
Highly Desirable
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse faculty and student
populations in an academic setting. Experience with Innovative Interfaces
integrated library systems. A second masters in another discipline.
Salary
Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications.
