RE: Patron-initiated Recalls

Teri,
Yes, patrons can initiate their own recalls. The procedure is called
"automatic request processing" (ARP). You will find a description of it
in the manual (#101219). Fill out the request worksheet and fax it to
the Help Desk. They will open a call for you and one of the techs will
contact you when they are ready to set it up.
Basically anything is recallable unless you indicate otherwise. For
example we don't allow recalls/holds on Class Reserves, Reference, books
on order, cancelled orders, billed overdues, etc. There are also some
OPAC system options that III should turn on for you when ARP is
instituted (16-23, 32).
We went through about 3 revisions of the ARP requesting "rules" before
we got what we really needed. If anyone at your site takes the Advanced
System Access and Administration training from Innovative they will be
able to get into the request rules table and make modifications. Even
if someone already has taken the training I would let Innovative set up
the rule table the first time around.

Subject: Patron-initiated Recalls
Greetings from Clemson! We're a relatively new III site. After much
confusion and consultation as well as reading documentation, I believe
that
patrons cannot place a recall from the OPAC with no staff intervention.
Am
I correct? I was hoping that our new system would handle this service
but
it appears not. Per library policy, our patrons can place a recall on
any
material checked out on extended loan (longer than two weeks).
Does anybody have a work around? I'm planning to request an
enhancement.
