We are Banner and III.  We had the SSN in both the Banner record and the 
patron record until a few years ago.  The SSN is still in Banner, but 
only a few report use that information. 

The library patron load has always used the Banner number (UID) as a 
match point to overlay records.  We have never used the SSN for that 
purpose.
