I haven't tried this through our EZ Proxy server, but I experienced the same symptoms on my Mac from a valid campus address. I think the problem may lie with Safari (or with ArtStor's inability to support Safari).

A note on the information page about ArtStor on our website says:

PLEASE USE : INTERNET EXPLORER 5.5 and above OR NETSCAPE 6.0 and above OR MOZILLA 1.5 and above OR FIREFOX 0.9.1 and above.

After failing with Safari, I tried Firefox, and it worked fine. IE for the Mac is also a dead-end, therefore.

I just tried it from my Mac & experienced the same thing your users
reported. I don't think it's a proxy issue - wouldn't we be barred from
even getting there if the proxy was broken?

If you find out, please let the list know - it is a problem for all of
us. It could be that they don't support the latest version of the
software. Their system requirements only go up to 10.3, and many Mac
users are now on 10.4

Good morning

The University of the Arts subscribes to the image database,
ArtStor and we
utilize WAM to offer access to our users both on and off campus.

We have have into a problem and would like to know if anyone else has
experienced this and <fingers crossed> solved it. Our users who
work on PCs
are able to access the ARTstor database from our catalog. They are
prompted
for a login/password, directed to the site, and can begin to work
trouble-free.

However, our users who work on Macintosh computers are having a very
different experience. For some reason Mac users are unable to log
in to
ARTstor through our library pages. They enter their library info
with no
problem, and get to the ARTstor home page, but when they click on
the links
on the ARTstor page, the screen turns white and freezes. However,
they can
go directly to www.artstor.org (bypassing the library?s
gatekeeping) and use
ARTstor with no problem. They have tried using a variety of web
browsers,
but always have the same problem.

We have asked the vendor to problem solve this and they have sent the
question back to us, believing the problem has something to do with
the
proxy-rewrite itself.

Please contact me off-list if you have any ideas about what is
going on.
Thanks.
