Truman State University has implemented icons in our consortium catalog.
We selected public domain images and edited them based on staff and
consortium members' suggestions.

We chose to use blank icons for printed texts (books/journals,
microforms, etc.) largely because of microforms' displaying a book icon,
which we thought was misleading to catalog users.

See Truman's scope at http://lance.missouri.edu/search~S6/ Search
keyword: fleurs.

Subject: Icons in Web OPAC

We implemented using icons in our Web OPAC at the University of Missouri
system and Saint Louis University this summer. We used the standard
icons offered by III.

We here at UMKC have discussed whether we want to propose changing a few
but before we do we would like to see what other III libraries have done
that have implemented this feature.

If you have implemented icons in your Web OPAC, could you let me know?
We appreciate the opportunity to see what others have done with this
feature.

Our catalog's URL is: http://laurel.lso.missouri.edu/search~ if you
want to check out our implementation.

Thanks!
