McGoogan Library of Medicine currently maintains about 800 subscriptions.
All of our journals circulate, both bound and unbound; items are created at
the time of checkin. We do not archive our checkin cards; we have not
input info on the cards that we have found necessary to retain. We use one
card, and delete boxes as necessary to add additional issues and
supplements. If an issue is still on claim, we do not delete that box; we
add others after it. If a claimed issue is unavailable, we create an item
with that info, and delete the checkin box. Each issue is labeled, and
the label includes the date of receipt; this info is also in the Date
Created for the item.

We code the Checkin Record for active serials (SCODE 1=e, for "checkin
exists" as opposed to i for "inactive," etc.); this gives us the statistic
we need.

Not archiving cards has not produced any problems for us.
