Hi Mike, all,

Our folks don't find it to be such a terrible process ... they print out the report, and it's not very difficult for them to identify the real duplicates and delete them from the received file before doing any posting ... efficient ? not really, but time consuming? ... not really either ... they feel it's worthwhile and we've grown accustomed to the idea that some things in Innovative are clunky and probably reflect what III had to offer in 1990 ... probably not a high priority for improvement/enhancement ... in Millennium training the trainer wanted to have us practice keying records into the system ... go figure ...

I am looking at our Extended Approval Plan interface and would like to compare experiences with other libraries that use it. The duplicate detection doesn't seem to be working quite the way folks here thought it was and not as well as we think it should.

When we load our brief bibs and order records (from YBP), up to 30% percent of them are flagged as potential duplicates while very few of them actually are. To take a recent example, 56 records loaded, 16 flagged as duplicates, only one actual duplicate. How does this compare with your experience?

Looking at the report, about half the records flagged as potential duplicates are by "series key" and the other half by "title" (not title key as folks here believed). Are these the criteria other libraries are using?

I am wondering why in the world the software is checking on the series key at all--that seems a good way to flag a false duplicate every time! I can see in the load table where the title checking is enabled, but I don't see anything about the series key.

I welcome any observations.

Thanks,
Mike
