yeah - between your reply & the other ones I've gotten off list,
there doesn't seem to be an alternative.
Our home page only has some of the indexes in the drop down box - for
the rest, they have to go to the srchhelp page. We'll just have to
try to explain it there. For us, the major uses will be special
collections.
thanks to all who answered.

Ours is called "Form & Genre" (how creative!). We don't use "index"
because all our index choices are in a drop-down list (see

I'm not sure how much more explicit we can be in the name of the
index.
We're working on wording for our "Catalog Help" page, but I don't
think
many people actually use that. We're also trying to include
information
for the Form & Genre index in Library Instruction sessions for people
who are most likely to use it (film studies, primarily). --ann

Subject: form & genre index name?
Have any of you who have a form & genre index come up with a better
way
of describing it to the end user?
We'll be putting ours up next month, and I have no idea what to
call it
so it makes sense -- especially since it isn't used in all cataloging
here.
