Archiving serial check-in cards

Serials staff at the Bourne Library (CLAMS Network) would be interested in 
the answers to this question also--we have been having a discussion 
regarding the advantages/disadvantages and so far have determined that the 
only advantage to archiving a card appears to be when one still has an 
outstanding claim.  Would anyone reply to this list rather than off-list,
