Currently, series titles and titles in contents notes are included in
the title index. But when the system displays the results of a title
search, it does not display the field in which the title sought has
been found, unless that field happens to be the 245 field. It
invariably displays the 245 field. Consequently, when someone
searches in our catalog under "Stranger," the title, "Hits," appears
at the beginning of the search results display. Only by opening the
full bibliographic record can one discover that "Stranger" appears as
a title in a contents note. To say that this phenomenon is
potentially confusing to patrons is understatement.
It sounds like a display issue rather than an indexing problem. Can you
clarify where these problems are showing up? Webpac, terminal interface,
and Millennium client sometimes work differently. It would also help to
have some concrete examples if we can see them in your OPAC.
