Baylor University
2 Catalog Librarian positions
Baylor University, located in sunny and affordable Central Texas, seeks
innovative and energetic individuals to fill two catalog librarian
positions: Special Projects Catalog Librarian, and Catalog Librarian.
These positions are non-tenure track, Academic Professional positions
with faculty rank and status. The successful candidates will assist
the Bibliographic Access Unit Leader in the leadership and overall
direction of the unit.
General Requirements:
Master's degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited
program; knowledge of AACR2, LC and Dewey classification, LCSH, MARC
formats, online catalog management procedures/techniques; working
knowledge of PC workstation applications, OCLC cataloging utilities, and
local integrated online library systems (Innovative Interfaces products
preferred); and ability to interact effectively with a diverse campus
population, both orally and in writing.
Specific Requirements and Description:
The Special Projects Catalog Librarian will be responsible for original
cataloging of all materials for special collections, special libraries
and projects outside the Central Library's workflow; participating in
digital projects with the Electronic Library; training the Special
Projects Team; and keeping the Bibliographic Access Unit up-to-date on
trends and changes in special collection cataloging issues. Required
qualifications: Minimum of three years post-MLS professional cataloging
experience, preferably with rare books or special collections; knowledge
of Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Books; familiarity with new library
technologies and trends, as well as non-traditional cataloging standards
such as Dublin Core; and working knowledge of one or more foreign
languages (modern European languages preferred). Minimum salary:
$37,000.
The Catalog Librarian will be responsible for original cataloging of
monographs and microform for central library collections; supervising
and coordinating central library inventory projects, database
maintenance and authority control processes; training monographs
cataloging teams; and keeping the Bibliographic Access Unit up-to-date
on trends in monograph cataloging. Required qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in original cataloging and
authority control. Working knowledge of a foreign language (modern
European or Asian language preferred) is highly desirable. Minimum
salary: $35,000.
