I just want to point out one problem not related to privacy that we have
encountered with turning this on. We are still on Silver and recently
implemented Millennium Circulation.
We noticed that whenever certain patrons checked out materials, the
system would take 30 seconds (we timed it) to register EACH item
scanned. The helpdesk tracked it down to patrons who have their reading
history turned on. Sure enough, my record was slow, I turned off the
reading history and as Emeril would say, "Bam!" - my checkouts were
instantaneous.
This is supposed to be remedied in Rel. 2005. If you haven't implemented
the reading history yet, wait until you install 2005.
