Reporting to the Head of Collections and Technical Services, the Acquisitions Librarian has primary responsibility for managing the acquisitions area of the Library, including the timely and accurate processing of materials added to the library's collections. Performs some cataloging tasks. Processes and tracks orders using OCLC, Innovative Interfaces, and other systems as needed. Manages the library materials budget and reviews and approves invoices for payment. Supervises the Periodicals Assistant, a part-time/temporary Acquisitions Assistant, and student assistants. Serves as a collection development liaison for assigned subject areas; contributes to public services through participation in reference service and/or library instruction. An ALA accredited master's of library science degree is required. Requires computer skills, especially working with bibliographic utilities such as OCLC and integrated library systems such as Innovative Interfaces, as well as a working knowledge of MARC and cataloging principles. An ability to work effectively with details is essential as is the facility to organize information, write reports, and keep statistical records. Familiarity with using spreadsheets and in working with budget and cost data is preferred. Strong supervisory skills required. Familiarity with basic library services, including cataloging, reference, instruction, is preferred. Posted 7/8/05
