We only tried an absolute date once and we abandoned it so my knowledge
is limited. However, one thing that we discovered (which may not be an
issue for you) is that you can never put the date you are using in the
absolute loan rule in the Days Closed Table. We had assumed that an
absolute date meant that it was literally an absolute date and that it
would ignore the Days Closed Table, but we were wrong. We had tried to
have an absolute date for one patron category, while allowing other
patrons to have a due date calculated on X number of days but with
additional time at Christmas. It didn't work. Everyone was given
extended due dates.

Subject: RE: Loan Rule - Absolute date

Oh, also, is there anyone out there who does have an absolute date as a
due date willing to share their loan rules with me... As well as the
pros and cons of this sort of loan rule. Of particular interest are the
blocking and "billing" actions built into the rule.

Your help is very much appreciated.

Subject: Loan Rule - Absolute date

We are looking at the possibility of changing our loan rules so that our
faculty will have an absolute due date of Aug 31 (I suppose it would be
Aug 30 in leap years). One of the things that we are looking at is if we
can include in our loan rule that if an item is checked out within a
certain number of days before the set date that the due date will be the
same day the following year. For example, if the due date is Aug 31,
2005 and a faculty member checks out an item on July 5, 2005, the due
date would not be Aug 31, 2005, but would be Aug 31, 2006. I can see how
this might be done in renewal, but not for the initial check out. And,
for that matter, I am not absolutely sure that it will work in renewal.

I need to figure this out fairly quickly, so I am hoping that someone in
this group knows if this is possible.

Thanks,
