Thank you for your responses. We are considering offering a full
privilege card to our retired faculty and staff an no charge. This
would include ILL privileges.

Hi Dannis
Out here at University of Melbourne, Australia, we offer limited
borrowing
privileges to staff retirees, the same as we offer to staff of
affiliated
institutions. So thats :
10 items at a time,
low use items only (no reserve or 7 day loans),
ability to place 10 holds,
no media,
no external electronic database access (still available for use from
within the library).
No charges are in place as we or the Faculties use it as a bit fo a
thankyou present, and we don't have a large number of users.
We make up another card for them, nothing like the current staff cards
as
they must return their staff cards on leaving University employment.
We used to give them an open expiry date but in an attempt to cleanup
our
patron database we now require them to renew annually - a letter is
given
to them stating their privileges, and they need to reproduce this to
extend their privileges for another year.
regards,
Ruth Baxter
