Thank you to the many folks who wrote me regarding their difference
techniques. Many used
the status codes to make the changes. While this is way better than
location code
changing, we really wanted to find a way to let the system do all the work
for us--
AUTOMATICALLY. Since a "Pseudo-patron" record wasn't possible (a technique
used
in my previous life working with NOTIS LMS), I started to play with a
feature in III
called TIME TO SHELVE. Here are the results:
In Time to shelve, any item record without a status (status = "-'), you can
set up messages.
Accordingly, when a new item record is created for our circulating
collections, the
status is "-" and thus when that item record is created, the Webopac status
shows
"Item being processed". We have the table set to 48 hours.
For items being returned, we have it set for 12 hours to say "Item being
reshelved".
The table works in a top down order when it looks at the location and then
whether
it is a new item or an older one.
I tossed in a second new item record line for New Books, that lasts 2
weeks, (560 hours).
Today, our system automatically changed from "Item being processed" to "New
Book
Shelves".
Here is a glimse of our table:
01 > mast n48:00 Item being processed.
02 > mast n560:0 NEW BOOK SHELVES
03 > mast 4:00 Being reshelved.
As you can see, the "n" is for new item records.
This is really swift and has just sold me on using the new books
shelve. Private inquiries
welcome. Thank you III for some really good software.
Cordially,
