Librarian - Associate Director - UMKC University Libraries



Dynamic urban academic library seeks knowledgeable, creative, energetic,
flexible individual with proven management/administrative skills for the
position of Associate Director, University of Missouri-Kansas City
(UMKC) University Libraries. Position reports to the Dean/Director of
University Libraries and serves as deputy director in all facets of
administration for library system (Dental, Health Sciences, and Miller
Nichols libraries). Responsible for the day-to-day management and
administration of all University Libraries public and technical services
and all personnel recruitment, hiring, training, development, and
evaluation. Participates on management team with assistant directors to
maintain organizational values of high quality user-centered service,
inclusiveness, and respect. Maintains and enhances excellence and
effectiveness of library services, oversees resource management for the
University Libraries budget in consultation with the Dean, and assists
the Dean in providing strategic leadership to position the University
Libraries for the future. The Associate Director effectively represents
the University Libraries in appropriate University of Missouri, local,
regional, and national organizations and contributes to the library and
information science profession. Serves as acting dean when requested by
the Dean. UMKC is a comprehensive research university exemplifying the

collaboration.

Qualifications

Required: MLS from ALA accredited program. Evidence of strong
leadership ability. Five years progressively responsible academic
library management experience including: documented record of
accomplishment in management/administration and supervisory experience;
knowledge of issues in higher education; knowledge of methodologies and
initiatives for the assessment and improvement of library programs;
understanding of the scholarly research environment; ability to
establish and maintain productive collegial relationships; ability to
work positively and productively with diverse constituencies in
environment of rapid change and foster same in others; strong commitment
to staff development; superior oral and written communication skills;
record of accomplishment in service, research, and publication at a
level sufficient to meet professional criteria for career level
librarian within the University Libraries.

Preferred: Additional subject Masters or PhD, record of experience and
accomplishment in all aspects of human resource management.
