Re: Updating Patron ID #s in batch?

When we converted from ssn to student id no. we had our first file created
with the ssn in the u field (for matching) and the student id in another field
(we used the b field) We loaded the records (matching on the u field), then
deleted the u field with the ssn and replaced the u field with the b field.
No more ssns!! Before we did this we cleaned out the patron files as much as
we could and did two loads this way (Fall Q and Winter Q) After that, all the
ssn's were deleted.

Greetings,

One of our sources of patron data has changed the content of the SSN field
from SSN to a locally created student ID number. After they made the updates,
they sent me an Excel file with the old SSN and new student ID values for just
over 500 patron records. My problem is that the SSN field is a key matching
field for the patron load, so I'm pretty sure I won't be able to update the
SSN through any patron load profile chicanery.

Has anyone run across a similar situation? Were you able to come up with a
batch update method or did you have to resort to manually changing the SSN
field so future overlays would work correctly? Or did you just wait until the
first batch load and use the error file listing all the new duplicate records
to manually merge the duplicates? Or is there some other method I have not
thought of yet?

Thanks. Have a great weekend.
