Hello Corrine,

Thanks for your note. The notes field that I'm talking about is in the patron record, not an item record. The information from the online manual (page # 105763) says:

NOTE
Free text note. A patron record can contain multiple NOTE fields. The NOTE fields do not display to patrons who view their records. Maximum 10,000 characters

We were told by our III trainer that the Message field displays to the patron in addition to Circ staff but the notes field does not. But in our testing phase before we go live, we are finding that the notes field is showing and not the message field by clicking on the "Show Messages" button when the patron brings up his/her record using the My Millennium/"whatever we decide to call it" to look at the books on their account.

Thanks for your help,
Mary

You might want to try the Xnote..internal note field rather than the
note field. Our note field appears in the opac with the item record
which is where we have the note field. The message box is a popup box
for us to assist in checkout. We don't have problems with the message
box appearing in the opac. Perhaps this is part of your setup. But
from the sound of what you have, it appears that you don't have the
difference between "note" and "xnote" useage down. We use xnote a lot
but that is our inhouse notes for items that have damage or just
anything we need to know that would be helpful about the item and its
issues. Hope this helps.

Subject: Notes vs. Message fields

Hello,

In the process of training our staff on Millennium (we go live next
month),
we discovered something odd. When you put text into the notes and
message
fields on a patron record, it is the notes field that displays to the
patron through the WebOpac. According to III's online manual, the notes

field is not supposed to show to the patron. Also in our initial
training
from III, our trainer said that the message field displays to the patron

when he/she clicks on the "Show Messages" button. Is this an error in
the
manual or is there something that needs to be set in the system to keep
the
notes field for staff eyes only?

Thanks for your help,
