Hello Corrine,

Thanks for your note.  The notes field that I'm talking about is in the 
patron record, not an item record.  The information from the online manual 
(page # 105763) says:

NOTE
Free text note. A patron record can contain multiple NOTE fields. The NOTE 
fields do not display to patrons who view their records.  Maximum 10,000 
characters

We were told by our III trainer that the Message field displays to the 
patron in addition to Circ staff but the notes field does not.  But in our 
testing phase before we go live, we are finding that the notes field is 
showing and not the message field by clicking on the "Show Messages" button 
when the patron brings up his/her record using the My Millennium/"whatever 
we decide to call it" to look at the books on their account.
