At the Columbia Law Library we use HHP 3800s (HHP-3800LR-12). HHP stands
for Hand-Held Products; these have also been marketed under the brand name
Welch Allyn. They use a non-laser type red beam, and read the barcodes
well. Stands are available, or they can be hand-held.

We've been using the old barcode wands since time began. Anybody have some
desktop scanners to recommend?
