The American University in Cairo seeks Instruction/Reference Librarian.
Under the direction of the Coordinator of Information Literacy, the
successful candidate will teach sections of the required information
literacy course, teach subject specific classes, develop new instructional
materials using a variety of methods and technologies, conduct in-house
training and workshops, and assist with assessment, evaluation, and
publicity for the information literacy program. A significant component of
this position involves web development. Provide reference service using both
traditional and electronic resources; nights and weekends included. Some
collection responsibilities.
Requirements include an ALA accredited MLS, excellent oral and written
skills in English, experience in teaching, experience in delivering high
quality, traditional and electronic reference service, high-level web
development skills, knowledge of current trends in virtual communication and
experience with online teaching and learning. Preferred qualifications
include a second Masters degree, working knowledge of Arabic or other
languages, experience with course management and related software, and
successful experience in a multicultural environment. Salary is according to
scale based on qualifications and professional experience. Rank is Senior
Librarian Faculty Status. Position # LIB-1.

Renewal of an appointment depends upon institutional needs and/or the

Salary and rank are according to scale based on qualifications and
professional experience. For expatriates, housing, annual round-trip air
travel for appointee and accompanying family, plus schooling for up to two
children are included. In view of AUC's protocol agreement with the Egyptian
Government, which requires specific proportions of Egyptian, U.S., and
third-country citizen faculty, at this time preference will be given to
qualified applicants who are U.S. citizens.
