We are in the process of migrating to III. This morning I was looking at
patron records pages on our staging site. When you're in "My Record" and
you click on the "Modify Your PIN" or the "Modify Your Personal Info"
buttons you get a pop-up window. I've found some III libraries using pop-up
windows for search tips too. Isn't there a concern about pop-up blockers?
How do these windows work in light of those?
It is my understanding that most pop-up blocker mechanisms don't
block user-initiated new windows (which is what the windows in
question would be); their function is to block windows which are
automatic and not created by user action. Our WebOPAC uses
Javascripted new windows for locations and for WebBridge, both of
which are called by user action, and I've never seen either blocked
by my browsers' pop-up blockers.
If anyone has experience or knowledge to the contrary, please share it.
