One of the challenges we found with Sue's suggestion (to output from
Millennium and import into the OCLC Label Program) is that the Label
Program requires the first character of each line to be blank. However,
it doesn't appear to be possible to accomplish that with labels
generated within Millennium. So we ended up using a simple perl script
to add the required blank space.
Also, one of our libraries needed one SP1 and one SLB (one single-spaced
pocket label and one spine label) for each item. Their format and
sheets wouldn't work with Millennium, so we had to output to the label
program. However, because of the label programs requirements for the
SLB format, we hacked together a perl script to:
- add the blank space to the beginning of each line
- to remove a space from in between the pocket and spine labels (since
the pocket data has to start in position 12 of each line, but adding the
space to the beginning shifted the pocket to position 13)
- create the hanging indent for multiple-line authors or titles
So getting your labels to work with OCLC's Label Program will work ...
but might take some massaging.

Yes, that is a frustration and it has come up often on the enhancement
requests. I've been told since there are work-arounds it is a low
priority
for Innovative. I had to leave early to catch a plane so I missed a lot
of
the 2006 update session at IUG but the presenter did mention changes to
label printing. Maybe someone who caught the whole thing can elaborate
but
I still don't think it will do what we want it to do as far as
different
formats. She mentioned being able to print labels for large print books
in
large font but I am guessing it will still be in the SL6 format.
Currently Innovative only prints to the SL6 format. You want the SP1.
What
we do is choose to print continuous labels, choose the printer to be a
file
and then move that file out of Millennium with Data Exchange. We then
open
it in the OCLC label program and print in SL4 format. SP1 is an option
in
the OCLC program so you might investigate that.
