Invitation

If you've ever thought about the following:

web services
XML interfaces
single sign-on
portal or CMS integration
Blackboard or WebCT integration
or anything else along these lines...

please consider emailing me regarding your possible interest in
forming a SIG to work on integration-related efforts. I don't know
now what this might become, but I'd love to see further discussion of

these issues and try to find a way for interested people address
related concerns together.

Background

The response to the presentation on portal integration that I did
with my colleague Elaine Allard, and my presentation on XML Server
applications has been tremendous, and one of the greatest things to
come of it has been to find so many others that have similar
interests in building library services that integrate with and add
value to larger projects.

As a person involved with academic libraries, I often think of ways
to add library services to academic efforts like our campus portal or

our learning management system (WebCT), but I've spoken with folks
from all manner of libraries who've named great integration
opportunities that they imagine would improve service to their
patrons. Though the specifics vary, we all seem to share an awareness

that the library is part of (or could add services to) a larger
system and we're interested in finding ways to do it.

It's clear that there are a number of us out there, but we've not had

many opportunities to talk or work together on issues like this and
I'd like to find a way to change that.
