Systems Librarian

The University of Houston-Downtown W. I. Dykes Library is accepting
applications for the position of Systems Librarian. Reporting to the
Director of Library Services, the Systems Librarian provides leadership in
the application of current library technologies, and supervises the
Technology Coordinator.

Job Responsibilities: Arranges for the provision of technical support to all
library departments, including coverage of commercial library applications
like Clio, Ariel, and OCLC Connexion and Resource Sharing. Reports to each
library department about technology projects which affect that department.
Supervises the Technology Coordinator, who maintains software applications
and hardware. Makes recommendations to the Director of Library Services
about expenditures of technology funds. Works closely with the Electronic
Resources Librarian and the Public Services staff on gaining access to
appropriate electronic databases and serials. Participates in supporting the
library needs of UHD distance education students at the UH System campuses.
Coordinates library staff training on automated systems and disseminates
guides and updates to library systems. Represents the library on
technology-oriented committees both on and off-campus, and acts as liaison
to the UHD Information Technology department as well as the UH integrated
library system support team. Participates in reference duty, collection
development, and instruction, including participation in the weekend
reference rotation.

UHD is an open-admissions, multi-cultural, teaching university that offers
primarily undergraduate degrees. Based in a unique, historic building, it
provides a nurturing academic community, as well as offering distance
education via online courses and four off-campus sites. The university is
located within walking distance of the vibrant Houston downtown theater
district and a major-league baseball stadium and is close to the museum

Requirements: ALA-accredited Master's degree. Proficiency with Windows
operating systems and Microsoft Office applications. Ability to install and
configure software components, as well as to provide basic to intermediate
PC support. Intermediate-level knowledge of computer networks. Must possess
the ability to work independently and as part of a team, communicate well,
and develop collegial working relationships with others. A strong customer
service orientation is required, as is a demonstrated commitment to an
undergraduate, open-admissions environment.

Preferred: Familiarity with Innovative Interfaces, Inc. (III) Integrated
Library System. Familiarity with TCP/IP protocols and Microsoft Active
Directory. Supervisory experience.

Starting Salary: $38,000 - $40,000, depending on experience and
qualifications.
