I set an amount ($5.00)in the money owed field in the template. Not a
fine, but a charge, I thought that would help the person who asked. We
have templates for most of our patron types, since we add a major field
in students, and an office extension to staff and faculty. I used
character based to construct the template, but used it in Milcirc.
Hope IUG is going well.

I think perhaps there has been no more response because 1600 of us are
at the IUG meetings in San Francisco, doing only the most critical
email. ;-)
Could the person who responded about a default patron record be more
specific? Do you mean that you can set up a patron template that
includes an amount in the OWES field? If that is possible (and I don't
know if it is), I suppose you couild also include text in the template
to explain that amount but I can't think of any way to add an actual
fine record unless you do add a "manual fine" (using "add charge"
manually after the record is created.

Will,
It does not sound all that simple to me, but I'm a cataloger. When I
think
"fine", I think overdue materials. What you describe is more of an
administrative cost assessed for reasons other than overdue materials. I
do
not remember something like this from training, but I could easily have
missed it.
As nobody has responded for nearly a day, perhaps you will become
involved
with the enhancement request process soon. First, as you have only
recently
come up on the system, perhaps you can still ask III's lead member of
your
implementation team or call the nice folks at the other end of 800 help
number.
Sorry I'm not much help,

Subject: Very simple (I think) question
I can't imagine why I'm drawing a blank on this, as it seems like it
ought
to be very simple. Alas, I continue to beat my head against the wall.
I'm trying to set up my innovative system (millennium silver, if it
matters)
so that when a new patron record is created with a particular pcode3, a
fine
of a set amount is immediately and automatically placed on that patron
record. Can I do that?
Thanks,
Will Porter
