Last Patron (LPATRON) in Item Record

iii Users:

My director has asked me to look into retaining the checkout history of a 
certain item type (laptops that we check out).  Through Circ Stats, we can 
break up the usage via patron type.  But I'm not sure if the system allows 
for a more specfic patron history.  As far as I know, the only options are:

a) enable "check-in: store last patron in item record" #105995 (ONLY the 
last patron)
b) enable "Retain patron circulation history" for My Millennium (based on 
patron and only for patron view in Web OPAC)

Are there any other options for extending the "store last patron in item 
record" and if so, can we limit it to only certain item types (laptop)?  I 
have the feeling that it will have to be done manually outside of the iii 
system.  Thanks.
