Doing a patron load in this way has made a HUGE difference to our
Circulation staff workload. Toma Iglehart and I did a presentation at IUG
a couple years back in San Jose on uploading patron records into
Innovative from the administrative system used in our colleges (Datatel).
Some of the information was Datatel-specific, but other parts of the
process should translate to other systems - particularly the planning
process you'll need to go through. I can't remember if the presentation is
on the IUG website, but you can contact me off-list if it's not and I'll
be happy to send you the info.
The big thing to keep in mind is that Innovative supports the process to
the extent that you CAN import records in batches, as long as they're in
one of the specified formats. What III does NOT support is the process by
which your student information system gets that information into one of
the specified formats - your campus IT people may have to create a program
that will extract and format the data properly, and then you can upload
the file via FTS and work with it in your III system.
