Yes, this is done by many III sites in a variety of ways depending on the source of the patron data.
Data must be output from the source system (Banner or other system) and formatted into one of several supported formats. This file of patron records is then loaded via ftp or loaded from a PC file into the Millennium system and
the Read/Write Marc records menu options (character-based) or Data Exchange modules in Millennium are used to load these records into the system (see manual page 102565) where they will match on a key field (barcode, University ID or other unique fields) and overlay or insert the record into the patron database.

This requires a load table/profile for patron records which should be available on your system, but may require configuration by Innovative depending on your needs (contact the help desk for assistance).

The possible formats for the patron data file are outlined in the manual at page 102565. Many sites use format 3, but others are possible. Also scripts have been written (Perl etc.) by some sites that will format delimited files for spreadsheets or databases (comma, tab delimited etc.) into other formats such as format 3. MarcEdit could be used to format into MARC format also (though I have not used this format). Hope that helps. There are lots of sites with a great deal of experience with this so you should receive many tips!
There was also a recent thread on the IUG list regarding scripts and SQL statements for extracting data from systems such as Banner.

Subject: Uploading student patron info via dump file

Hello everyone,

Our law library would like to explore the possibility of uploading student
info (name, address, student ID, etc.) via a central dump file once a
semester into Innopac rather than manually entering it as we do now.

Is this possible with Innopac, and if so, what are our options? Does III
charge for something like this or can we do it for free? Any III
documentation I can read through? (Haven't found any yet, still looking)

Thanks in advance to any who respond.

Rob
