PLEASE BOYCOTT THE HILTON

Colleagues, please boycott the Hilton, until there is a contract for 
the hotel and restaurant employees.

  I can't be in favor of decent wages, benefits, and health care for 
librarians & faculty and not in favor of the same for hotel and 
restaurant employees.

Librarians, Stand for Justice!
Tthe employees of the Hilton Hotel have called for a boycott and are 
asking that we not use the Hilton for any reason whatsoever.  The 
Hilton is threatening their health care, deny them decent wages, 
respectable pensions and the right to work with other hotel workers 
across the country. They are are dishwashers, housekeepers, cooks, 
bellpersons, doorpersons, servers, bartenders, room service 
attendants and bussers. 

There are regular picket lines in front of the hotel that are DO NOT 
PATRONIZE lines, not informational picket lines.

By going inside the hotel, you will be directly helping the hotel 
deny them as well as ALL San Franciscan's a decent standard of 
living. 

Local 2 (HERE) has contacted several IUG presenters, meeting planners 
and conference chairs to ask them to do the right thing and move the 
conference and not go inside the hotel.  The union offered legal help 
so that the group could escape from their contract with a penalty, as 
hundreds of other groups have done.  Instead of doing the right 
thing, IUG has hired an attorney who is threatening to sue our union, 
as if our fight with the Hilton isn't enough.

As customers of the hotel, we are asking for you to put economic 
pressure on the hotel as the only thing that the hotel will listen to 
is their bottom line.  The two month lockout in the fall ended 
because customers wouldn't go inside the hotel.  It is even more 
important to honor the boycott now so that they can keep their health 
care and decent wages and San Franciscans can keep a decent standard 
of living.  The only way you can support them is by honoring the 
boycott and not going inside the hotel.  Please do the right thing 
and instead of going inside the Hilton, join them on the picket lines.
