We've been using Star Micronics TSP242's successfully with all versions
of Millennium up to and including Silver.
When we first set up our printers, we had to program the printers'
EPROMS specifically to enable the auto-cut feature to work properly
(after a line feed). There may be a similar requirement with your
model...
Also, in order to get Windows to print correctly with Millennium and
your receipt printer, you'll likely have to adjust the "print
processor"; go to the "Printers" applet in Windows, right-click on your
printer, choose Properties, then the "Advanced" tab, then click on the
Print Processor button and choose an option that works (try printing
from Millennium and/or PAC to test after choosing).
As far as header information, you could try Print Wizard to insert
graphics, etc. We never got around to implementing Print Wizard with our
receipts, but I did discover (and implement) a way to insert the date
and time for ALL receipts (which allowed us to have it on our Hold
pickup slips, which are otherwise uncustomizable) via a separator page
feature accessible through Windows; to access it, go to the "Printers"
applet in Windows, right-click on your printer, choose Properties, then
the "Advanced" tab, then click on the Separator Page button, then browse
to the *.sep file you want to use. If you play around with that page a
bit, you'll find that you can add in a number of types of items.
Below is the set of instructions I assembled for our own printers. Yours
are likely different, but it should give you an idea of the number and
type of steps involved with getting a receipt printer functioning with
III:
---->BEGIN INSTRUCTIONS<----Star Micronics TSP200-24 Receipt Printer
Set-Up
Before turning on and activating the printer, the dip switches in back
need to be configured correctly:
1. In the first set of (8) dip switches, the first seven, 1-1 to
1-7, need to be in the "on" (up) position. The eighth switch, 1-8, needs
to be in the "off" (down) position.
2. In the second set of (4) dip switches, the first two, 2-1 & 2-2,
need to be in the "on" (up) position. The second two switches, 2-3 &
2-4, need to be in the "off" (down) position.
Because there are two auto-cutter options for the Star receipt printer,
it is vital to enable the proper choice in the printer's memory, or else
an error will occur.
In the Memset program (with the printer activated and "online"):
1. Choose the "Select Communications Port" menu selection (first
option) to enable communication with the printer.
2. "Input Memory Switch string Settings" for appropriate memory
switches (2nd menu option):
a. Switch #0, set to: 0004, then choose "Yes"
b. Switch #2, set to: 0300, then choose "Yes"
3. "Initialize the printer" (menu option 4). IMPORTANT!: ONLY
initialize the printer AFTER both memory switches have been set,
otherwise an error will occur.
4. "Exit Program"
In Windows, add the receipt printer via the "add printer" dialogue. Set
it as the default printer.
In Windows, access the printer properties dialogue box. For the "Print
Processor" option, set (for Winprint) the default data type to text, or
to RAW (FF appended or auto, but not the first choice). Save and exit.
Note: If NOT using Print Wizard, change the print setting in ANZIO PAC
to "low".
Now the receipt printer auto-cutter will be enabled, and PAC printing
will be fast and good quality.---->END INSTRUCTIONS<----
The "Memset" program was provided by Star Micronics, as was a fair
amoutn of tech support to arrive at portions of the above instructions.
Hopefully your printer won't be quite as complicated, but this has
worked well for us.

Subject: receipt printers with Millenium Circulation?
Hello,
If anyone has successfully integrated receipt printing with Millenium
Circulation, please let me know what make and model you are using. The
features that we are most interested in are receipt slicing and
header/footer customization. We are using 2005 LE 1.0, but any feedback
from users of previous versions is welcome!
After trying the Star Thermal printer model TSP 600, we found that
Millenium uses its own Java control to communicate with the printer,
ignoring the options set in the native printer driver. III could provide
no useful assistance with this, nor could they suggest a printer that
interoperates with Millenium. Also, according to a printer specialist at
III, millenium will only send a form feed command, so slicing doesn't
work.
Thanks for your time!
