For the GX280 model, Dell offers an optional PS/2 and Serial Port
Adapter ($8.10) that you can plug your barcode scanner into.

Subject: OT: PS2/USB adapters for barcode reader

Hi,

We have Percon Series20 wand barcode readers that have served us well
for
many years. They are the wedge kind that are attached between the
keyboard
and the CPU. We are in the process of getting new Dell GX280 computers
and
discovered a problem. The Percon has PS2 cables. The new keyboard is USB

and there are only USB ports on the CPU. Our IT staff tried PS2 to USB
adapters (the little green ones) but the keyboard isn't recognized. You
can't even log onto the computer because ctrl-alt-del doesn't respond.
Is
anyone aware of any special adapters we can use so that we can continue
to
use our existing barcode readers? I found some on the web for varying
prices so it would be nice to know which ones actually work.

I checked the archives and people have recommended some USB barcode
readers
they are happy with but we'd rather not have to buy many new barcode
readers that weren't budgeted for at this time.

Sue
