We have found color is not good for most library applications for shelving:

1). Color blind users find this impossible.

2). Fading of label colors over time causing confusion between certain
colors (example: green discolors to gray or black; or red discolors to
orange), and

3). Users not remembering what color does/goes where.

Just use language to denote location.

Subject: color on spine labels

Hi,

Since there is a new thread starting related to spine labels I thought
I'd ask "Is anyone using color in some way to differentiate books
belonging to one branch vs. another?"

We have four libraries across our seven campuses and display the
location above the call number on our spine labels. Still, things get
sent to and shelved in the wrong building. We are reviewing our spine
label production methods and I'm looking for some way we can incorporate
color into the label without sacrificing readability. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Candace
