I would be interested in the opinions/experiences of anyone who has used
an existing field, or set up a new field, to record the appraised or
estimated value of a volume separately from its purchase price.
We have been using order records for new stuff since we brought up our
acquisitions module in 2004, but I don't think retroactive order records
for the 70,000+ volumes acquired between 1866 and 2003 is the answer.
We'd still like to know what we paid for a volume. But as a historical
society founded in 1866, the purchase price seldom bears much relation
to current price. Our administration has expressed interest in a more
systematized way of recording the value of the collection. And it seems
that there ought to be a neat way to do this in Millennium.
Recommendations, pitfalls...?
