Setting your own database as "remote"

Hello--

Has anyone chosen to include their own Millennium database among the list 
of remote z39.50 servers?  Our Acquisitions people would like to do this in 
order to conduct two searches at once--say WorldCat plus local holdings. 
The idea makes sense to me at a surface level.

Can it be done?  Is it dangerous?  Anything I should try to avoid?
