RE: Question about "In Processing"
[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]
While I do understand the need to have staff pay attention to Millennium
prompts/messages, I would like to still see if there is a way to
eliminate the need to clear the in processing message received when
checking in such an item. Any time we check in an in processing item,
we do want to clear the status from in processing to available.
Therefore, answering "yes" to "this item is currently in processing, do
you want to clear?" is just one more unneeded step.
If anyone who knows how to suppress this message thereby automatically
changing the material's status from in processing to available, please
let me know.
Thanks.

Peter --
I am assuming that you have an item status that is "In Processing." The
message that you are getting at checkin is one that you get for any
different item status when you are checking things in. It is good, for
a number of reasons, to get your staff to pay attention to these prompts
as they can provide important information.
Insofar as an option, you can use a feature called "Time to Reshelve an
Item". This is a Circulation Parameters and it does two things. First,
it displays an alternative label under status for things just checked
back so it does not revert right back to AVAILABLE or CHECK SHELF when
returned. Second, it displays an alterative label under status for
items that are newly created. So in this scenario, you can have
something display as "Newly Processed" for the first 72 hours after it
is created. Then at hour 73, it reverts to the "-" status. Since it is
just a display, it will not cause these requests to clear a status when
you check them in. To get this to work, you want to make sure that
there is an average amount of time it takes to process something. Since
it is a display issue only, I do not believe that the check-in will
change the status.
For more information, see the users manual at Page # 105411 (Milcirc
Circ Parameters).
Hope this helps.

Subject: Question about "In Processing"
We currently use the "In Processing" flag to make materials not yet
cataloged, available on our catalog so patrons can place holds on them.
A problem/annoyance that we run into occurs when we check in these
materials. When an "in processing" item is checked in, a dialogue box
appears asking the user whether he/she wants to clear the "in
processing" flag on the material. It is potential problem because our
staff do not always know an item on a cart is "in processing" and as a
consequence, often continue to check materials in without first
answering "yes" to the "in processing" dialogue box. Thus many items do
not get checked in, as Millennium is waiting for a user response.
Sometimes we catch this, sometimes we don't.
Therefore, I would like to eliminate the need to answer "yes" to the
question about clearing the "in processing" all together. I am hoping
there is a way when an "in processing" item is checked it, to "silently"
clear this flag without requiring any user intervention.
Is there a way to suppress this dialogue box? In doing so, when an "in
processing" item is scanned in, the "in processing" status would
automatically be cleared without user intervention.
Thanks.
