Hi David,
Yes, it was those pesky circ options and using the staging directories.
Thanks!
Janet

Janet;
There is a set of system options in the Circulation Options menu that
will control whether this feature is turned on regardless of what your
wwwoption settings are:
90 > Retain patron reading
history.........................................YES
91 > Define reading history
behavior.................................onbyptype
92 > Limit reading history behavior by patron types .....
When we decided to test this option we had to choose to define the
option by p-type, and then either create a brand new p-type and a few
"test" patrons with this new p-type, or tell the system to only allow
the p-type we assign to staff accounts. Other options rather than the
"onbyptype" or "offbyptype" seemed to turn the feature on for everyone.
Only after playing around with these system options could we test this
on the staging directory by adding the wwwoptions, and not offer the
feature prematurely to our patrons.

David

Hi Alan,
You hit the nail on the head--My Reading History is beyond buggy. After
sloshing through Innovative's typically overly wordy and hard to manage
documentation, we realized that all we had to do to activate My Reading
History was add ICON_READING_HISTORY_OPTIN=opt in to our wwwoptions
file.
Of course I added this to our practice database and played around. I
invited staff to try it and when a question was raised about public
usage I
showed them how My Reading History was not yet available for the public
by
going into the live webpac, but surprise(!!) My Reading History was in
the
live webpac. I deleted the option from the practice wwwoptions file and
restarted the webservers and surprise(!!), My Reading History was still
there. I double checked to make sure that I deleted the wwwoption and
restarted the web servers again, but My Reading History was still there.
I
then called Innovative, who agreed that this was not supposed to happed.
This happened yesterday and this morning My Reading History is still
available even tho the wwwoption is not on my list. Neither my Director
not
my Board has approved this addition to the webpac and this really puts
us in
a sticky situation. My call to Innovative is considered "urgent." I'll
let
you know how it turns out.

Janet,
We had this set up so that all of our users automatically had access to
this feature unless they opt out. It is accessed via My Millennium so it
is PIN protected if you have set this in My Millennium. However in the
current release it is buggy. After a couple of months we found that
Issues were being slowed at the circ desk (up to 2 secs per issue) and
after a while we could not issue to big borrowers e.g. other libraries.
We have now turned this off.
I have just been informed that this problem has now been fixed but it
will not be available until the 2005 full release.
