There has been a lot of discussion on the listserv recently about various
workflows for authority control. In the past, I've been involved with
several other librarians in giving presentations about authority control
at the IUG conferences. I've had people ask me if we were going to update
our presentation to reflect the new Milcat reports and
workflows. Although we haven't done that yet (too much work!), one of our
presenters was always Dana Kemp, formerly a cataloger at Mercer
University, now a III trainer. I recently saw an announcement from III
that they will be offering two versions of a two-day workshop about
authority control, one workshop focused on doing the work in-house, the
other if you outsource. Dana is the trainer who is designing and
conducting the workshops. Speaking from experience, I know Dana has an
in-depth grasp of this topic and managed to keep current with her headings
reports while at Mercer, no small task! If you are a new library or a
library who needs to learn the ins and outs of authority control, you
might want to consider one of these workshops. You can find more
information at CS Direct. I apologize for the plug but as many of you
know, I love the challenge of authority control and actively seek ways to
entice others into the strange and wonderful world of headings reports!
