AVS required for pre-limiting web opac searches?

Could someone tell me if Advanced Keyword Searching is required in order
to set up pre-limiting searches in the web opac? What I'm talking about
is setting up a form where a patron can enter search terms, choose an
index, and choose limits such as material type and bib location before
doing the search. Thanks.
