Angela, my understanding is that, although the dumb terminal is wired to the lantronix box (and uses a hard port), the lantronix terminal server connects to Innopac over an ethernet connection, in what is essentially a telnet session. That is, the lantronix + Wyse terminal offers no protection from network vagaries that can cause a connection to be dropped and a session to suddenly close.

If you eliminate the terminal and use telnet, it makes sense to have a separate logon for system/administrative functions and for this particular logon to 1) have a dedicated user license and 2)have automatic timeout disabled. If you did lose a session during upgrade it would be recoverable, but helpdesk would have to intervene.

I have my dumb terminal attached to a Lantronix box. I am considering
getting rid of it because it is the only thing I have attached to the
Lantronix box. I have several PCs in the room that I can use, but I am
conconcerned about the telnet session timing out when I do software
upgrades. I am interested in what others have done or recommend.
