If this is a brand new problem and you can manually key in barcodes
without problem, the issue is most likely with your barcode scanner.
To see if your scanner is malfunctioning or has been reprogrammed, just
open Notepad or any other word processor and read a few barcodes. It
should be obvious if the scanner is prepending characters or not reading
properly.
