Colleagues --
Diane's posting reminded me of one of the followup items that I have on
my "to do list"
When our hardware was installed (Compaq Alphaserver DS-10) we were told
that III does not configure the system with a device that I had known on
other systems as a console terminal. They said that all SA work can be
done via a PC. And I have found that to be true, so I did not squawk
much about it. But it is now a year later, and I do find that there are
enough times when a console in the computer room would be a convenience.
Our budget for tech support with City MIS folks is based on the number
of PCs, so for sure I will not be able to justify a full PC for the low
quantity of use a workstation in the computer room will get. But heck -
I've got a handful of dumb DEC terminals from our old Galaxy system -
I'd sure like to give a stab at getting one of these to work as a system
terminal (a.k.a. console).
Has anyone got a dumb terminal on their DEC alphaserver DS-10? Does it
require a terminal server, and if so, what kind do you have? Or is it
plugged right into the RS-232 jack that is on the back of the Alpha box?
It is asking questions like these that reminds me how much I am a
librarian and not a hardware wirehead.
Thanks for the advice,
Paul

Subject: Wyse terminals
Good morning,
Does anyone have an unused but still functioning Wyse T160E terminal
(model no. WY-160) gathering dust that you would be willing to sell?
I need a short-term fix for our system monitor. Contact me off list to
negotiate terms.
Thanks
Diane Yarborough
