While we don't wipe out the 001, we find that it's not too useful. The
001 cannot be used for overlaying or updating if you have any source of
authorities other than OCLC (LC, a vendor, III, etc.) -- and if you
don't now, you may have in the future.

In any case, I'd suggest that if you change your Authority load table to
retain the 001 fields you should make sure that your overlays use 010 as
the match point.

When we load OCLC authority records into our OPAC, the ARN is wiped out
rather than input in the 001. The LC control number is duplicated in
the 010 and the 001. This seems odd to me. I would be interested in
hearing if other libraries retain the ARN. I would think it would be
very helpful for updating authority records.
