Karen,
We used to use an item status called "on display" but too many items got
back onto the shelves with the status and we hand to round them up and
change there status. We looked at the pros and cons of using the "on
display" status and decided to do away with it. Our temporary displays
have no special indication in the record. Does this cause confusion?
Occasionally but not any more than when we used "on display" status.
If you use 3M selfcheck machines, use the checkin MESSAGE field sparingly.
SelfCheck will not check out an item with a MESSAGE field. We used to
have a lot of message fields because they so conveniently popup at checkin
like "2 discs and 1 booklet". When we pushed to increase our selfcheck
stats we did away with all but the most important MESSAGE fields.
When we have a longer than normal temporary book display, we put colored
dots on the spines. When the time is up we remove the dots.
