As a former administrator of an Informix-based ILS, one of the things I
miss is the ability to query circulation transactions, holds information,
deleted items, circulation statistics, and system parameters. Since
everything was stored in a table, everything was accessible. Create Lists
is a very powerful tool, and certainly accessible to the end-user, but the
records don't always contain the things I want to know.

I would love to see the system migrate to mySQL, but I do think that any
system, whether open source or proprietary, is only as good as its
underlying data structure. I would hope that as Innovative migrates to an
open-source database, whether its Oracle, mySQL, or something else, that
great care be put into the design of the database rather than simply
moving the existing structure into SQL tables.
