Has anyone created there own certificates and not purchased them from a
vendor?
What is the liability of creating our own certificates?
If you create your own certificate, customers will get browser warnings
every time they visit your site. This will confuse some people, and a
few may choose not to use the site as a result.
Self issued credentials are basically meaningless -- this is the
electronic equivalent of educational institutions listing accreditions
from bodies they established.
Functionally, the system will work fine with self certification.
However, some patrons may find it unnerving to get browser warnings
right before entering sensitive information.
