Hello Out There,

My library is getting ready for the installation of the
Millennium ILS in May 2005. I am particularly interested in hearing
from those of you who purchased the Electronic Resources Management
System and how you developed standards and practices that best serve the
needs of your library staff and the public in managing and using
electronic resources. Any getting started ideas would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks

Subject: Headings Used for the First Time

These lists are the core of our authority control work. Original
catalogers set up headings according to LC authority files, cataloging
rules, etc., but in copy cataloging, headings are usually accepted as
is. The Headings Used for the First Time report alerts us that we've
used a heading that hasn't been used before in our catalog and,
therefore, needs to be checked for correctness and currency and,
perhaps, needs an authority record. This is also where we find that a
name or subject heading has been changed by LC and needs to be changed
to the new form in our catalog. Since we have AAC, this change usually
happens when we download the new authority record.

We review the report daily.
