E-mail Notification: favorite authors, titles, genres, etc.

Is there a way that patrons can sign up for e-mail notifications when
their favorite authors, titles, genres (keywords), etc. arrive at a
Library?  For example, I may want to sign up for any new books that
arrive at a Library that have to do with Civil War.  Similarly, another
patron may want to sign up for e-mail notification when a new John
Grisham novel is released.

 

In an ideal situation, the way we would like this system to work is as
follows.   A patron would sign up for this notification via the web.
Then when the e-mail is sent, say for a new John Grisham book, the
e-mail would tell the recipient about the new title and include a URL
where the patron could place a hold for the new book.  When the patron
clicked on this URL, the patron would login to his/her account.  And a
hold would be placed for this title.  

 

If this is possible, could you please tell me what is needed?  Modules,
version, etc.
