RE: Millennium Freezing

Dear Melanie,

we did the same. The privately hired consultant concluded that:

"Every 5 min. a keep alive package is sent to the test server and
sometimes this fails although the bandwith (400kbit/s) is constant and
stable and there are no firewalls that breakoff connections."

During the tests we got a java Null Pointer exception. I have broken
down the message in a more readable form.

When we look at the /iiidb/errlog/syserr server file it contains a lot
of KeepAlive breakdowns. Although the connection breaks the client is
not shutdown.

The problem does not appear when the client is connected to the server
on the same LAN.

We delivered our test report to III some time ago and we are waiting for
an answer.

Other experiences?

We've had a call open on this issue for a few months now. In fact,
tomorrow we're having a privately hired consultant come personally to
monitor the traffic on the network. In all modules, we get what we call
the "blue screen of death" and we also often get a system is not
responding error message. We frequently have to end task and restart.
Usually these experiences are after Millennium has been minimized and/or
left unattended for a while. However, it has happened several times
while we're actively entering or editing data. I've been hoping it's a
local network setting. If we find a fix I'll share it.

Good Morning,

I am preparing to load to Millennium Silver so I have been reading up on
Known Issues, etc on csdirect. There is a patch for a similiar event
which III has described as "freeze after unsuccessful patron search."
My system freezes up in a fashion similiar to John's--after Millennium
is minimized and then maximized, we get a lovely aqua screen. We cannot
quit and I often have to restart the workstation. I have confirmed with
my IT staff that the workstation is more adequate for running
Millennium. This freezing situation occurs several times an day.
Perhaps this patch mentioned on

csdirect will fix it. Hope this helps.

I hear ya, brother! But it makes no sense to me. We've been dealing
with something like this for at least the year+ I've been here,
originally on Phase 3 and now on LE. Except I can't see any connection
to any particular functions. One of the staff thinks it's usually in
Serials. Used to be one campus but now it may happen anywhere, even to
me. It's not happening as often as it used to, but it happens to more
workstations.

The worst occurrences seem to be after a Mill window is minimized and
maximized. We just get this teal box which won't respond. I guess the
next step will be to log login/time/date/location/function but I hate to
have to inflict that on the staff.

And in our case it's not the Cisco/PIX issue in the Firewall FAQ.

Hello Everybody,

We have been trying to figure this out now since we went live with
Millennium. It seems to be freezing up every so often but only after a
certain set of procedures. Does this make sense to anyone? First you
check out some books to a patron then they want to change their e-mail
address, or something in their patron record. So without closing the
transaction you edit the e-mail and save then close the transaction.
The receipt will print and the record closes, but the patron info stays
in the info section and millennium will not respond. The only way to
get it to close is to end the task.

Thanks,

Aaron Beebe
